Gradual warming prior to the end?Permian mass extinction
نویسندگان
چکیده
The biggest known mass extinction in the history of animal life occurred at Permian–Triassic boundary and has often been linked to global warming. Previous studies have suggested that a geologically rapid (<40 kyr) temperature increase more than 10°C simultaneously with main pulse. This hypothesis is challenged by geochemical palaeontological data indicating profound environmental perturbations rise prior extinction. Using secondary ion spectrometry (SIMS), we measured oxygen isotope ratios from Changhsingian (late Permian) ostracods north-western Iran. Our show ambient seawater began least 300 kyr event. Gradual warming approximately 12°C was probably responsible for initial degradation eventually culminated end-Permian

Gradual extinction reduces reinstatement
The current study investigated whether gradually reducing the frequency of aversive stimuli during extinction can prevent the return of fear. Thirty-one participants of a three-stage procedure (acquisition, extinction and a reinstatement test on day 2) were randomly assigned to a standard extinction (SE) and gradual extinction (GE) procedure. The two groups differed only in the extinction proce...
متن کاملDental Disparity and Ecological Stability in Bird-like Dinosaurs prior to the End-Cretaceous Mass Extinction
The causes, rate, and selectivity of the end-Cretaceous mass extinction continue to be highly debated [1-5]. Extinction patterns in small, feathered maniraptoran dinosaurs (including birds) are important for understanding extant biodiversity and present an enigma considering the survival of crown group birds (Neornithes) and the extinction of their close kin across the end-Cretaceous boundary [...
متن کاملOn the prior distribution of extinction time.
Bayesian inference about the extinction of a species based on a record of its sightings requires the specification of a prior distribution for extinction time. Here, I critically review some specifications in the context of a specific model of the sighting record. The practical implication of the choice of prior distribution is illustrated through an application to the sighting record of the Ca...
متن کامل[Warming up with endotrainer prior to laparoscopic cholecystectomy].
BACKGROUND Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is a safe and effective treatment and remains the gold standard in patients with benign disease. However it presents difficulties such as: the limited movement range of the instruments, the loss of depth perception, haptic feedback and the fulcrum effect. Previous training can optimize surgical performance in patients to master basic skills. OBJECTIVE A...
متن کاملThe "domino theory" of gene death: gradual and mass gene extinction events in three lineages of obligate symbiotic bacterial pathogens.
During the adaptation of an organism to a parasitic lifestyle, various gene functions may be rendered superfluous due to the fact that the host may supply these needs. As a consequence, obligate symbiotic bacterial pathogens tend to undergo reductive genomic evolution through gene death (nonfunctionalization or pseudogenization) and deletion. Here, we examine the evolutionary sequence of gene-d...
